SPE-UTP-SC TRAINING CLASSES

Do you want to represent UTP and compete with other universities all over the world? Here is your chance to do so! Join the training classes organised under SPE-UTP-SC and earn the opportunity to compete with the best of the best from other countries!

What are these training classes all about?

The main purpose of this training class is to train UTP students for external competitions such as:

1) Petrobowl

2) Oil Rig Design

3) Mud Innovation Challenge

4) Paper Contest

5) Plan of Development.

These training classes also serve as a platform for students to enhance their knowledge on the Oil and Gas industry.

Why should you join these training classes?

These classes are completely free and are being led by highly qualified lecturers from UTP's PE Department! Plus, you get to be a part of our university team in representing UTP for competitions!

What are the competitions all about?

The competitions that we will train for are:

PETROBOWL

  • The PetroBowl competition pitches teams from SPE Student Chapter's against each other in a series of quick-fire rounds, answering technical and non-technical industry related questions.

OIL RIG DESIGN COMPETITON

  • Oil Rig Design Competition is a challenging competition where participants will be constructing an up-to-scale oil rig platform that would be placed in multiple tests and challenges. Examples of tests that will be conducted will include Stability Test, Oil Rig Strength Challenge, Buoyancy and Wave Challenges, and Practicality of the Oil Rig.

PAPER CONTEST

  • Paper Contest is a competition that aims to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents, discoveries, theories and innovative ideas through papers and professional presentation.

MUD INNOVATION CHALLENGE

  • During the competition, students will be participating in teams, with each team normally consisting of 2 to 3 people. Each team will then be given a unifying theme or case study, in which participants are to design and present the best drilling mud to be used.

PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT

  • During the competition where students will be participating in teams of 4-5 people, each team will be given information on an Oil and Gas FIeld, where participants should then design and technically present the best development stratergy. This competition challenges the participant's technical knowledge, critical thinking, stratergy as well as their creativity.

When and where?

The classes are open to all departments and will be held at 8-10pm on every Sunday night starting next semester!
